Who should I contact if I think my child has special educational needs?
Please speak to your child’s class teacher first of all. He or she will know your child really well and will be able to talk with you about any worries that you have. Your child’s teacher will know your child’s strengths and weaknesses, the progress they are making in school and whether this is in line with what is expected for your child’s age and their peers. Usually if there are any concerns about your child in school, the class teacher will speak to you before the stage is reached where you feel that you need to approach them.
You can also contact Mrs Jenny Atkins who is the special educational needs and disabilities co-ordinator who oversees the provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities in school. She will speak to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns. As head teacher, she has overall responsibility for the provision for children with special educational needs or disabilities in school.
